My story

My name is Musa Jeme Ben, and my story begins not with comfort, but with displacement.

I am a refugee, a human rights activist, and the Founder of Nakujali Foundation. But before any title, I was a young person trying to understand loss, identity, and what it means to rebuild life from uncertainty.

Arriving in Nakivale Refugee Settlement changed my life. I witnessed pain, resilience, rejection, talent, strength, and silence — all existing in the same space. I saw young people full of potential but lacking opportunity. I saw women carrying invisible trauma. I saw children growing up without safe spaces to express themselves. I saw people with disabilities and other marginalised individuals being overlooked.

And I knew something had to change.

Nakujali Foundation was born from that conviction — the belief that healing and leadership must come from within the community. I started with yoga, not just as exercise, but as a tool for trauma healing, confidence building, and body autonomy. Over time, it became more than sessions on mats. It became a movement of refugee youth leading change.

Today, Nakujali is a refugee-led, youth-driven organisation creating safe spaces for children, women, persons with disabilities, and other marginalised groups. Through trauma-informed yoga, sustainability education, youth mentorship, and advocacy, we empower people to heal, rediscover their voice, and take leadership in their own lives.

My work extends beyond the settlement. As a model and content creator, I use my platform to challenge stigma, amplify refugee voices, and promote young refugee talents who deserve to be seen and celebrated. Visibility matters. Representation matters. Dignity matters.

I believe refugees are not defined by what they have lost, but by the strength they carry and the futures they can build.

This website is not just about me. It is about a journey of resilience, community, and transformation. It is about proving that even in displacement, leadership can rise. Even in hardship, hope can grow. And even in silence, a voice can be found.

Welcome to my story.
